First Birthday!

Who doesn't love planning a first birthday party? OK so it might be a party more for the parents than the child. The little one won't remember it... or so I hear. ;) I love planning parties for my kids and first birthdays are extra fun because well, it's the first.

I like to celebrate first birthdays with my custumers too. I provide a free smash cake when a first birthday cake is ordered. I love getting to provide my own special gift for the birthday kiddo. I like to create them to match the main cake and I love to see pictures after the party of the smashing. (hint hint)

Here are a few pictures of some of my cakes with their matching smash cakes.

I'm back and ready to attack!

Attack some cake that is!

Convention was a blast!! I had so much fun. We had lots of classes and demonstrations. I met some famous cake peeps and learned a ton. Of course there is always shopping and going out with friends which I think is just as fun. I didn't get as many pictures of our get togethers as I would have liked, I was having too much fun. Maybe my friends will share their pictures. :) Here are a few pictures though of my classes and other fun things.

Michelle Bommarito. She has been on tv competitions and is a wonderful artist!

My friend Kim in her class.

Me in Michelle's class.

Dragon demo with Kelly Lance.

The massive ICES 2010 display cake. This was in the main convention building we used.

Becky Rink in her demo on cake sculpting.

We took off one night with friends to see the beach. This was in La Jolla but that spot way out there is my favorite place in San Diego. :) Maybe my favorite place period, Coronado.

Friends... Connie, Diane and Wendy. Oh and some random people. haha

My sock puppet shark class with Mike Elder. Ok it wasn't suppose to be a sock puppet, it just came out that way. :) Mike has won like 3 cake competitions on tv. He's fab and was such a nice guy!

Norm Davis, also a Food Network tv star. He is also super nice. Love him!

This is the cake Norm demo'd. I love to paint on cakes, I love fall, I have to try this one!

We did go to Coronado one night for dinner because I know this is the best Mexican food around. (your welcome!) YUM. It was so yummy and so much fun to hang out with everyone. We were for sure the loudest people there!

It was Connie's birthday and so when the fireworks started to go off we went out to look and told her it was all for her. ;) There had actually just been a wedding so I assume it was that or who knows maybe they always have fireworks there.

I am so excited and refreshed and ready to make some killer cakes. :) I have lots of new things to try. It was so much fun and I am already planning for next year!

Going to Convention!!!

I am sure by now you know that every industry or business has some sort of convention. So of course there is a cake themed one! ICES has a huge convention every year. You can watch demonstrations, take hands on classes, shop for the newest cake decorating supplies and meet lots of people. They have a dressy dinner, raffles and prizes and it's a lot of fun. I went to one a few years back when it was in New Orleans and had a great time. Well this year it is in San Diego! I am excited! It's close enough to drive which is what I and my friend Kim are doing.
We have a full schedule with demonstrations, classes, dinners, friends, shopping and even volunteering. We leave tomorrow! I will take pictures and probably share some here. When I get back I will have lots of new things to try out. This is going to be a blast!
I guess I should go pack something...

Welcome to my Bligidy Blog!

I am excited to start this blog! I think it is a fun way to share what I love to do and give out information about my business. :) So welcome! You can find ordering info up top in those linkies. If you have questions just email, call or leave me a message.

Getting Started:
I have always loved baking. My mom taught me fractions by teaching me how to bake. I was baking cookies on my own very young, maybe 8? In 2002 I had my first child and soon after decided I needed to figure out something I could do, but still be flexible with my schedule so I could stay home with her. I thought I would start planning parties and was looking into that. I found an online course to take and it recommended taking a class on things your vendors would do. My first class to take was a cake decorating class. I think after I came home from that first class I knew cake decorating was it for me. I like to plan parties but I LOVE to bake and decorate! I finished my classes, practiced recipes and tecniques and in 2003 I opened my business. My first cake, other than class cakes, was my daughters 1st birthday cake.

I think I have come a looooong way since then. haha Her middle name is Rose so that was my theme.

I also love to make chocolates and favors. I have a family recipe for a coconut ball, (looks like a truffle) that is wonderful. It could be compared to an almond joy type flavor. YUM I love to make truffles as well, chocolate dipped and decorated pretzels, cookies and spoons. Occasionally I get a chance to make pies or some other dessert item too. Of course cookies. I think my favorite thing to eat myself would be a cookie. :) Decorating them is fun too.

This tray has cookies, chocolate truffles in various coatings and the coconut balls.

Thank you again for stopping by. Let me know you were here and Eat Cake!
